Ingredients
1 block of firm tofu (454g), roughly crumbled
30 ml (2 tbsp) cornstarch
15 ml (1 tbsp) of Tao El-Ma-Mia general tofu seasoning
45 ml (3 tbsp) of canola oil
1 finely chopped garlic clove
1/2 chopped onion
15 ml (1 tbsp) of sesame seeds
For the sauce
80 ml (1/3 cup) of vegetable broth
45 ml (3 tbsp) of soy sauce
30 ml (2 tbsp) of brown sugar
30 ml (2 tbsp) of ketchup
30 ml (2 tbsp) of rice vinegar
15 ml (1 tbsp) of cornstarch
10 ml (2 tsp) of Tao El-Ma-Mia general tofu seasoning
2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) of sriracha
Steps
Pat the tofu pieces dry with a cloth.
In a bowl, mix the cornstarch with the General Tso's tofu seasoning. Add the tofu pieces and stir to coat them well with the cornstarch mixture. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
In a large non-stick frying pan, heat the oil over high heat. Cook the tofu pieces for 3 to 4 minutes, until lightly browned. Drain and place on paper towels.
In the same pan, cook the garlic and onion for 1 minute over medium heat.
In another bowl, mix the sauce ingredients.
Pour the sauce into the pan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 to 2 minutes over low-medium heat.
Return the tofu pieces to the pan and stir to coat them well with the sauce.
Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
