  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) of canola oil

  • 1 finely chopped garlic clove

  • 1/2 chopped onion

  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) of sesame seeds

For the sauce

  • 80 ml (1/3 cup) of vegetable broth

  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) of soy sauce

  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) of brown sugar

  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) of ketchup

  • 30 ml (2 tbsp) of rice vinegar

  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) of cornstarch

  • 10 ml (2 tsp) of Tao El-Ma-Mia general tofu seasoning

  • 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) of sriracha

Steps

  1. Pat the tofu pieces dry with a cloth.

  2. In a bowl, mix the cornstarch with the General Tso's tofu seasoning. Add the tofu pieces and stir to coat them well with the cornstarch mixture. Shake off any excess cornstarch.

  3. In a large non-stick frying pan, heat the oil over high heat. Cook the tofu pieces for 3 to 4 minutes, until lightly browned. Drain and place on paper towels.

  4. In the same pan, cook the garlic and onion for 1 minute over medium heat.

  5. In another bowl, mix the sauce ingredients.

  6. Pour the sauce into the pan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 to 2 minutes over low-medium heat.

  7. Return the tofu pieces to the pan and stir to coat them well with the sauce.

  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
